Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — On 27 March, a controlled release of hydrogen sulfide occurred at a gas field in the Baysun district of Surkhandarya region, according to the press service of the Ministry of Energy.

The incident was recorded around 9:00 PM at Well No. 202 of the M-25 field. To prevent environmental damage and air pollution, the well was ignited. No injuries were reported as a result of the event.

Representatives of a special task force under the Ministry of Energy arrived at the site. Specialists implemented all necessary measures using specialized equipment and reinforced safety protocols.

Authorities emphasized that the release poses no threat to the population or nearby areas. The situation was monitored by experts from the Ministry of Emergency Situations, Sanoatkonttehnazorat, and Uzbekistan’s military unit for the prevention and elimination of open oil and gas blowouts.

A similar hydrogen sulfide leak occurred during drilling operations in Surkhandarya region on 1 September 2024. At that time, local residents were evacuated, and the situation was brought under control by the President of Uzbekistan.
