Head of the UNESCO Office in Uzbekistan awarded with badge of Talim Homiysi

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- First Deputy Minister of Public Education of Uzbekistan Alisher Umarov presented the badge of the Ministry of Public Education (MPU) “Talim Homiysi” (Education Sponsor) to acting head of the UNESCO office in Uzbekistan Pilar Alvarez-Laso.

On 18 December 2018, the 25th anniversary of Uzbekistan’s accession to the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) was celebrated in Tashkent.

During this event, the ceremony of awarding the badge of the MPU "Talim Homiysi" to Pilar Alvarez-Laso was held. The award was presented for contribution to development of education and science in Uzbekistan.

The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) was established on 16 November 1945 in London by thirty-seven countries at the United Nations Conference.

The main goal of UNESCO is to promote peace and security by expanding cooperation among people in the fields of education, science and culture in order to ensure universal respect for justice and the rule of law, as well as basic human rights and freedom enshrined in the UN Charter for all people regardless of race, gender, language and religion.

Uzbekistan joined UNESCO on 26 October 1993. UNESCO office began its activities in the Republic of Uzbekistan on 23 April 1996. Since then, Uzbekistan has actively cooperated with UNESCO in a number of joint projects, programs, festivals and other initiatives. Uzbekistan was twice elected to the Executive Board of UNESCO in 1997–2001 and 2009–2013.
