Global Youth Tourism Summits: Uzbekistan to host International Youth Tourism in 2022

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 2-4 June, a delegation of Uzbekistan headed by First Deputy Minister of Tourism and Sports Ulugbek Agzamov paid a working trip to the city of Athens, Greece.

The head of the delegation met with Secretary General of the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) Zurab Pololikashvili and Regional Director of the European Department of this organization Alessandr Priante.

During the meeting, the leadership of the organization accepted proposals for the participation of two youth representatives from Uzbekistan in the Global Youth Tourism Summits, which will be held in August 2021 in Italy and this event in Uzbekistan in 2022.

At the 66th meeting of the WTO Regional Department for Europe, the Uzbek delegation provided information on the reforms carried out in our country in the field of tourism, measures taken to restore tourism since the pandemic and a number of initiatives in this area. There was also a separate presentation and discussion of the issue that the city of Samarkand will receive guests at the 25th session of the UNWTO General Assembly, which is scheduled for 2023.

Zurab Pololikashvili praised the reforms in Uzbekistan aimed at regular support of the tourism sector during the pandemic and noted that the city of Samarkand, as a bridge between East and West, is the most worthy place to receive.

The event also held a number of multilateral negotiations with the delegations of the member countries of the UNWTO Regional Department for Europe. In particular, issues of cooperation with the heads of the delegations of Azerbaijan, Armenia, Georgia, Hungary, Ukraine, Turkey, Russia, Spain, Austria and Saudi Arabia were discussed.
