German media: “Uzbekistan is conducting large-scale reforms aimed at liberalizing the political system”

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- An information portal Ostexperte.de, which publishes news and current reviews of events in Eastern Europe and Central Asia, familiarized its readers with the results of an international conference, held by the Embassy of Uzbekistan in Germany in the German Foreign Policy Society (DGAP ) in cooperation with the Robert Bosh Center for Study of Central and Eastern Europe, Russia and Central Asia.

Representatives of official, public, business and expert-analytical circles, as well as local media attended the event, which was held on the eve of the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev to Germany.

“The conference aroused great interest among the participants, since it was held on the eve of the first official visit of the leader of Uzbekistan to Germany in the last 18 years. “At the initiative of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, in Central Asia’s most populous country, large-scale reforms are being carried out aimed at liberalizing the political system, stabilizing the market economy, deepening integration in the region and in the international arena,” German experts Urs Unkauf and Matthias Dornfeld wrote.

The article provides statistical data indicating an increase in the number of tourists from Germany to our country. “In 2018, the Republic was visited by 33% more German citizens than in the previous year,” the article reads. From 15 January, Uzbekistan introduced a 30-day visa-free regime for Germans visiting the country for tourism purpose.

Speaking about the event, the authors indicate that during the meeting the sides discussed issues of modern development of Uzbekistan, the state and prospects of the Uzbek-German relations, the significance of the outcome of the bilateral summit in Berlin and other relevant issues on the agenda.

It was noted that there was a significant improvement in the business and investment climate in Uzbekistan, progress in the field of human rights, as well as an increase in the country’s position in the leading international ratings.
