German business delegation holds talks at Uzbek Foreign Ministry
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 23 June 2011, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan hosted a meeting with the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Economics, Labour and Transport of Lower Saxony Jörg Bode, who is visiting Uzbekistan with the representatives of business circles of Germany.

During the meeting, the sides underlined gradual development of mutual beneficial cooperation between Uzbekistan and Germany. It was said that bilateral relations have multipronged character and based on equality, mutual respect and trust. It was underlined that the sides have close or common positions on many key international issues, and ensuring regional security. The sides are holding intensive political dialogue and developing inter-parliamentary relations.

It was stated that Germany is main economic partner of Uzbekistan in Europe. Trade turnover between two states exceeded US$480 million in 2010. The positive trend is also observed this year.

The investments occupy special place in Uzbek-German cooperation. Currently, the sides implemented joint projects for over 1 billion euros. German companies participated in creation of high-technologic production capacities in Uzbekistan.

During negotiations, the sides expressed interest in active participation of Low Saxony companies in projects on modernization and technologic re-equipment of enterprises of Uzbekistan and projects at the Navoi free industrial and economic zone, including creation of capacities on production of energy saving technologies and use of alternative energy resources.

The sides exchanged opinion on developing new directions of cooperation, first of all, in implementation of investment projects in production of commercial cars, reconstruction of highways, production of modern road construction equipment, and agriculture.

During the meeting, the sides expressed interest in developing cooperation in tourism and other actual issues of mutual interest.

During three day visit, the German delegation will hold talks at the Ministry of Foreign Economic Relations, Investment and Trade of Uzbekistan. The business circles of Uzbekistan and Germany will hold business forum and cooperation exchange. Germen businesses will also pay visit to one of 114 existing enterprises, created with German investors.

Wolfgang Neuen, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Germany to Uzbekistan, participated in the talks at the Ministry of the Foreign Affairs.
