Game plan paid off beams Nasaf boss
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Nasaf coach Anatoliy Demianenko praised a tactically-astute display from his men after Ivan Boskovic's second-half goal fired them into the AFC Cup final at Al Wehdat's expense.

Holding a narrow one-goal advantage from the semi-final first-leg, Nasaf fell behind early at King Abdullah International Stadium when Abdullah Deeb found the back of the net to level the tie.

However, they hit back midway through the second period thanks to the prolific Boskovic to go through 2-1 on aggregate and become the first Uzbek team to reach the AFC Cup final, where they will face Kuwait Sports Club.

"I'm happy with the achievement of the goal in the match, which was to put a great deal of pressure on the Al Wehdat players and it gave us the chance to control the middle area and control the game," said Demianenko.

"We look forward to winning every match, the team must play to win in every match, sometimes we are able to win and luck is the ally of the players, and sometimes they are not lucky."

Demianenko also felt neutralising talented midfielder Hasan Abdel-Fattah was a contributing factor to their success.

"Hasan Abdel-Fattah is Al Wehdat's best player and was a danger in both matches," added the Nasaf boss.

"In today's match we tried to decrease his influence by have an individual marking him and we were able, to an extent, to do so.

"Al Wehdat are a good team, their chance to qualify to the next round was about 50% after the first match. They possess a large number of Jordanian national team players, which will be beneficial for them in World Cup qualifying games."

Al Wehdat manager Mohammed Kwid chose not to speak to the media, sending assistant Mihtaz Mendo instead and he felt the occasion got the better of the home side.

"The manager couldn't make it, so I came in his place. We apologise greatly to the Al Wehdat fans, the goal was to advance to the final and achieve the Asian title. Luck was not the ally of the boys," he said.

"Everyone was optimistic before the match and focused on delivering the best performance. However this was not realised on the field. Both teams did not play that well but the nervousness was evident in our players more.

"The defence is one of our strongest parts but their goal came from a lack of concentration. We stressed that they were not to let the opposition get crosses in and a mistake led to a goal for Nasaf by a player who excels in the air.

"There should have been more discipline from the players in dealing with these balls."

Mendo was also disappointed his players did not show more character after Nasaf equalised.

"We were surprised by the lack of a reaction from our players after the goal, we expected a reaction, but several of the players simply became depressed despite them being experienced players," he said.
