Galicia interested in attracting labor from Uzbekistan

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Ambassador of Uzbekistan Farrukh Tursunov held talks with the Director General of the Department of Education and Employment of the autonomous community of Galicia in Spain, Zeltia Lado Lago, Dunyo news agency reported.

During the negotiations, information was provided on the content and essence of reforms being implemented in the field of organized and safe external labor migration in our country.

It was noted that the Uzbek side is interested in organized recruitment of citizens for temporary work in Spain in sectors such as construction, agriculture, services, nursing, and others.

The autonomous community of Galicia is located in the northwest part of Spain with a total population of 3 million people. The agricultural sector holds significant importance in this region, with over 50% of the population employed in agriculture and fishing. Key agricultural industries include livestock farming, viticulture, and fruit plantations. Galicia is also known for its developed industries such as shipbuilding, chemicals, and food processing, with cities like Vigo and La Coruña serving as major industrial centers.

Due to rapid advancements in artificial intelligence and automation in the labor market of Galicia, there is an increasing demand for highly skilled professionals in the field of information technology. Simultaneously, there is a need for 400 foreign workers annually in sectors like construction, agriculture, and services.

In this context, there is an expressed interest in attracting workers from Uzbekistan to Galicia and providing them with training in the necessary specialties.

Following the meeting, the parties agreed to discuss cooperation issues during the upcoming visit of representatives from the Embassy of Uzbekistan to the autonomous community of Galicia in September.
