From Shanghai to Bukhara via the Silk Road

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Uzbek specialists have successfully completed another phase of the project to create a Gas Chemical Complex (GCC) in the Bukhara region. A high and low-pressure column measuring 72 meters in length, 5 meters in diameter, and weighing 235 tons was delivered from Shanghai to Karakul, as reported by the press service of the GCC.

The total length of the overland route exceeded 6,000 kilometers, traversing the territories of China and Kazakhstan, including challenging areas of northwest China and the passes of the Tibetan plateau. In Uzbekistan, the route passed through the Tashkent, Jizzakh, Samarkand, Navoi, and Bukhara regions.

For ease of transportation, the column, manufactured by the Chinese division of the American company Air Products and Chemicals, was divided into three parts and loaded onto three separate trailers equipped with special steering platforms to ensure maneuverability in particularly difficult sections of the route.

This equipment will be part of the complex for processing purified natural gas (methane) into methanol and will be used in the processes of gas separation, extraction of methanol from the gas mixture, its condensation, and purification while maintaining temperatures ranging from minus 196 degrees to plus 80 degrees Celsius.

The successful delivery of the equipment marks an important step in the implementation of the Gas Chemical Complex project, which will be a key element in the development of Uzbekistan’s gas chemical industry, thereby reinforcing reliable partnership relations with Air Products and Chemicals.
