Embassy of France in Uzbekistan said that the decision was adopted by the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of France.

The decision directed at harmonization of the Ministry’s establishments abroad and clarifying foreign policy of France in cultural issues.

French Cultural Center named after Victor Hugo in Tashkent was launched in January 2002. The main tasks of the center are teaching French, organization of cultural events, disseminate information on education and work, stipend programmes and competitions, as well as institutions in France.

French Cultural Center has six rooms for studies, media library and exhibition hall. Annually 1,000 people study French. Media library has over 1,800 people.
