Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Customs officials at Urgench Airport detained a foreign citizen attempting to smuggle antique coins out of the country.

According to the press service of the Khorezm regional customs administration, eight coins manufactured between 1870 and 1970 were found during the baggage inspection of the detainee.

The foreigner intended to export these items from Uzbekistan, which constitutes a violation of the law.

Under current legislation, the export of numismatic items created more than 50 years ago is strictly prohibited from the territory of the republic.

An investigation is currently underway regarding this incident.
