First phase of Andijan Airport runway reconstruction completed

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The first phase of a large-scale reconstruction of the aerodrome complex at Andijan International Airport has been completed. On 15 March 2025, at 10:30 AM Tashkent time, the airport welcomed its first technical flight operated by Uzbekistan Airways on the Tashkent–Andijan route.

As part of the modernization, the airport now features a new Category 4E runway, measuring 3,300 meters in length and 60 meters in width, along with a taxiway and an apron with three aircraft parking stands. All new aerodrome surfaces—including the runway, taxiway, and apron—are constructed with cement concrete.

The pavement classification number (PCN) is 64R/B/W/T, allowing the airport to accommodate modern wide-body aircraft such as the Boeing 787, 747, Airbus A330, and others without restrictions. The use of concrete surfaces, similar to those at Navoi and Termez airports, ensures high durability and resistance to the region’s hot climate.

The modernization efforts are ongoing, with the construction of a second taxiway, an additional apron with seven aircraft parking stands, and the installation of advanced CAT-II ICAO-compliant radar, meteorological, and lighting systems. These upgrades will enable the simultaneous servicing of up to 10 aircraft while ensuring safe takeoffs and landings at night and under adverse weather conditions. The improvements are expected to increase flight frequency and passenger traffic to Andijan and the Fergana Valley.

Andijan Airport had been closed for full reconstruction since April 1, 2023. The previous 2,985-meter-long and 44-meter-wide runway, along with the taxiway and apron, had become outdated due to extended use and insufficient load-bearing capacity, limiting the types of aircraft it could accommodate. Additionally, the lack of a modern lighting system made nighttime operations challenging.

Upon completion of the full reconstruction, Andijan International Airport is set to resume regular passenger flights soon.
