Film from Uzbekistan wins award at Cannes

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) – The documentary film "Dreamers" about the Jadids has won the Best Educational Film award at the World Film Festival in Cannes.

Initially, the film was presented in the category of "Best Historical Film." However, the jury later decided to move it to the "Best Educational Film" category.

The film "Dreamers" narrates the emergence of Jadidism, the fates of its supporters, the impact of the political events of 1917 on the reformist movement, and the significance of the Jadids for the history of Uzbekistan. The film also addresses issues of gender equality and highlights the progressivist movement in other Central Asian countries.

BWG Production, the company that produced the film, became the first from Central Asia to be represented at the festival. The filming took place in Uzbekistan, Russia, and Turkey, and the work on it lasted about two years.

"Dreamers" competed with filmmakers from the USA, Europe, and Africa.

The film's director, Ruslan Saliev, noted that this award is a significant victory for Uzbek cinema, as it provides a unique opportunity to present Uzbekistan's history to a Western audience.
