Film dedicated to First World War shown in Tashkent
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Merry Christmas, a film based on actual events of the First World War depicting the Christmas truce of December 1914, was screened in the Alisher Navoi Cinema Palace in Tashkent on 15 January 2015.

Demonstration was organized by the Embassies of German, France and Great Britain at support of Uzbekkino national agency.

The screening was dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the outbreak of the First World War, widely marked in Western European countries last year.

The film tells the story that took place on the Christmas Eve of 1914 on a lost battlefield of the Western Front, where a sad celebration in the trenches suddenly turned into fraternization of the British, French and German soldiers suffering from the scourge of war. They abandoned their arms to reach out to their enemies on the battlefield and greet them with no anger or hostility and to wish their brothers a sincere "Merry Christmas!"

The film created by filmmakers and actors from five EU member states including France, Germany, Great Britain, Belgium and Romania. It was nominated for Best Foreign Language Film at the Academy Awards (Oscar), as well as for the BAFTA Film Awards, Great Britain, and the Cesar Awards, France, in 2006. Merry Christmas received awards at the prestigious international film festivals in Spain and Great Britain in 2005.
