Famous Italian football player Paolo Rossi dies

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Former Italian football player Paolo Rossi died at the age of 64 due to lung cancer, Euronews reported.

Paolo Rossi became one of the heroes of the 1982 World Cup in Spain. As part of the Italian national team, he won the main trophy and became the top scorer of the tournament. In the same year, he received the Golden Ball as the best football player in Europe and was named the best football player of the year in the world by World Soccer magazine.

As part of the Italian national team, Paolo Rossi played 48 matches and scored 20 goals. With Juventus he won the European Champions Cup, the Cup Winners’ Cup, the UEFA Super Cup, two Scudettos and the Italian Cup.

Throughout his career, Paolo Rossi played for the Italian Juventus, Como, Vicenza, Milan and Verona. He played 340 matches and scored 134 goals. He is the record holder of the Italian national team for the number of goals at the world championships, along with Roberto Baggio and Christian Vieri - each scored nine goals at the world championships.

Paolo Rossi is one of the greatest football players of the 20th century by World Soccer and the FIFA 100 by Pele.
