Executive Committee of IFSAS to be opened in Tashkent

According to the other decision, deputy minister of agriculture and water management Shavkat Hamraev has been appointed as acting chairperson of the Executive Committee of the IFSAS, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan said.

During the summit held in Tashkent in January 1993, the Heads of State of Central Asia decided to establish the regional organization for saving the Aral Sea.

The General Assembly of the United Nations, by its resolution 63/133 of 11 December 2008, invited the International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea to participate as an observer in its sessions and in its work.

Location of the Executive Committee of the International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea will move to Tashkent for three years in 2013.

During this period, Uzbekistan, as the chair of the Fund, is committed to coordinating cooperation at the national and international levels in order to use existing water resources more effectively and to improve the environmental and socioeconomic situation in the Aral Sea basin.
