Andy Carroll headed opening goal for England on 23 minutes, but Glen Johnson scored an own goal to equalize the score on 49 minutes. Olof Mellberg headed the second goal of Sweden ten minutes later.

Substitute Theo Walcott brought England level when he drove a shot straight down the middle of the goal on 64 minutes from outside of the area. Danny Welbeck won it for England on 78 minutes after he backheeled Walcott's cross into the net.

After the loss, Sweden lost all chances to qualify to the quarterfinals of Euro-2012.
