Uzbekistan 11/10/2024 EU Ambassador Toivo Klaar to visit the Ferghana Valley

EU Ambassador Toivo Klaar to visit the Ferghana Valley

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The European Union Ambassador to Uzbekistan, Mr. Toivo Klaar, will visit Ferghana region on 15-16 October to review the progress of an EU-funded project implemented by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). This will be Ambassador Klaar’s first visit to the Ferghana region.

The primary goal of the project is to promote innovations in Uzbekistan's agricultural sector, focusing on supporting small-scale farmers. In collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture and research institutes, the project provides farmers with the knowledge and financial assistance necessary to adapt to the impacts of climate change and to implement sustainable and cost-effective farming practices.

During his visit, Ambassador Klaar will meet with farmers, researchers, and key stakeholders in districts such as Kuva, Altyaryk, Dangara, and Besharyk, where several agricultural innovations funded by the European Union have already been introduced. These efforts include drought-resistant varieties of cotton and mung beans, solar-powered drip irrigation systems, and the development of sustainable aquaculture practices.

This year marks the 30th anniversary of the partnership between the European Union and Uzbekistan, which has established strong political and economic ties. The EU continues to provide financial assistance to Uzbekistan, primarily to support economic development, good governance, digital transformation, digital and green growth, as well as sustainable agriculture and food sector development.
