Uzbekistan 08/06/2007 Equipment presentation ceremonies to be held at hospitals, schools

Grant aid of the Japanese Government is a form of Official Development Assistance (ODA) involving the provision of no-string aid funds to the governments of developing countries.

The aim is to cooperate with economic and social development by helping the government of the recipient country to introduce and upgrade its facilities and equipment.

Grant aid is made available mainly for social development in such fields as education, health and medical care, everyday water supply, and agricultural development; upgrading of public infrastructure; and environmental conservation projects.

In the late spring the Government of Japan issued a grant for the total of US$492,567 to two medical institutions and five schools in Bukhara and Samarkand regions. Two hospitals and five secondary schools have received modern medical and school equipment.

The representatives of the Embassy of Japan to Uzbekistan will attend the official presentation ceremonies of equipment on 11-14 June.

On 11 June such ceremony will be held at the Samarkand district Central Hospital which received a grant in the amount of US$58,160 in the framework of the Project on "Delivery of modern medical equipment to the Central Hospital of Samarkand district of Samarkand region".

On 12 June the ceremony will be held at public school No. 30 of Taylak district (Samarkand region), which received a grant in the amount of US$61,716, and public school No. 13 of the city of Kattakurgan (Samarkand region), which received a grant in the amount of US$78,544 for the new school equipment.

On 13 June the ceremony will be held at Gijduvan district public school No. 10 (Bukhara region), which received a grant in the amount of US$59,800, Gijduvan district public school No. 43, which was granted US$66,017, and Gijduvan District Hospital, which received US$89,900.

And finally on 14 June, the ceremony will be conducted at the public school No.7 in Bukhara city. The school was granted US$78,430.

Representing the Japanese government at the ceremony will be the Third Secretary of the Embassy of Japan to Uzbekistan Hiroko Kitamura, and the specialists of the department for economic cooperation Tamaki Yoshida and Nodira Muhammadkulova.
