Environmental cooperation in Eurasian space promises to be productive

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The environmental situation is becoming an increasingly significant factor affecting the politics and economy of both individual countries and integration associations. The coronavirus pandemic has shown the need for a transition to sustainable economic models, one of which is considered to be a "green" economy.

It is cooperation in the field of ecology and "green" growth that will be dedicated to the next XVII Forum of interregional cooperation between Kazakhstan and Russia with the participation of the heads of state, which will be held in Kokshetau on 12-13 November 2020, Ritmeurasia.org (Russia) reports.

The EAEU states have serious environmental problems that have not yet become a priority in the work of the Union. There is no special section in the EAEU Treaty that regulates environmental relations between countries. At the same time, within the framework of the SCO, an Agreement on cooperation in the field of environmental protection has already been signed.

All EAEU countries have state programs aimed at increasing energy saving and energy efficiency, using alternative energy sources, and improving the environmental situation.

Such Eurasian technological platforms as Technologies for the Extraction and Processing of Solid Minerals, Technologies for Environmental (Environmental) Development, EurasiaBio, etc. play an important role for the development of the "green" economy.

In addition, within the EAEU, attention to environmental aspects was reflected in the draft Program for the Development of Integration in the Sphere of EAEU Statistics for 2021-2025. A new section of statistics has appeared in the document - "green" economy and environmental protection.

There are three main points in the Program:

1) study of the experience of the Member States and international experience in the field of statistics of the "green" economy and environmental protection (2021-2022);

2) consultations on the formation of statistical indicators of the "green" economy (2021-2022);

3) formation and dissemination of statistics on the "green" economy and environmental protection (2022-2025).
