Entrepreneurs in Uzbekistan to face changes in electricity and gas payment procedures

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Entrepreneurs in Uzbekistan will now pay for electricity and gas at the base tariff rate, even if their consumption exceeds the established limit by up to 20%. This change was announced during a meeting between President Shavkat Mirziyoyev and business representatives.

It was noted that many industrial enterprises have expressed dissatisfaction with having to pay double when exceeding the limit for electricity and gas. These limitations, which hinder industry development, are planned to be eased.

Under the new rules, if electricity and gas consumption exceeds the limit by 20%, enterprises will continue to pay at the base tariff rate. However, if consumption exceeds the limit by more than 20%, the cost of additional consumption will increase by 20%.

Businesses categorized as “high” and “medium” in the business rating will be allowed to pay for electricity in advance through two equal monthly payments.

Additionally, entrepreneurs with outstanding debts to the budget or loans often face issues with paying utility bills due to account blockages in a state of “attachment.”

To prevent production stoppages, a new rule will be introduced: utility payment restrictions will not apply to accounts under attachment. This will allow businesses to continue operating, which, in turn, will expedite debt repayment.

It was previously reported that higher coefficients for electricity consumption by legal entities had been introduced in Uzbekistan.

Previously, legal entities paid 960 soums per kWh for exceeding the limit; now, they will have to pay up to 1800 soums per kWh for excess consumption.
