Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- From 1 to 29 May, electricity consumption in Uzbekistan decreased by 324 million kWh compared to the same period last year. This was announced by the Minister of Energy Jurabek Mirzamakhmudov in an interview with the Uzbekistan 24 TV channel.
From 1 May Uzbekistan increased tariffs for electricity and gas, and also introduced a social consumption norm.
The minister noted that the number of subscribers among the population increased by 160 thousand. The number of enterprises has also increased. According to the minister, a decrease in consumption with an increase in the number of subscribers is proof of the effectiveness of energy saving measures.
Jurabek Mirzamakhmudov reported that solar and wind power plants produced 970 million kWh of electricity, which is 700 million kWh more than the same period in 2023.
The Minister of Energy emphasized that Uzbekistan has also reduced the volume of electricity imports and now has the opportunity to export while fully providing the population and enterprises.
According to the minister, a similar trend is observed with gas. Despite the increase in the number of subscribers, gas consumption decreased by 125 million cubic meters over 29 days of May. Mirzamakhmudov noted that thermal power plants burn 5-6 million cubic meters of gas per day less than planned, and also half as much coal.
It should be noted that this year May in Uzbekistan was cooler compared to the same month in 2023, which also significantly affected energy consumption, since the population did not use air conditioners to cool their premises.
