Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Officials of the Uzbekistan Swimming Federation are suspected of embezzling more than 2 billion soums, according to the press service of the General Prosecutor’s Office.
An investigation revealed that 15 individuals, who were not part of the national swimming team, were sent on a vacation to Turkey using federation funds, with two family members of the federation’s Secretary-General, A.G., among them. This trip cost 405 million soums.
Additionally, 458 million soums were embezzled through fictitious orders for training camps that were never held.
Moreover, 1.2 billion soums allocated by sponsors for international competitions and training camps were misappropriated.
A criminal case has been opened, and a preliminary investigation is underway.
