Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 19 November, Tashkent hosted a roundtable on implementation of the recommendations of the UN Committee on Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women.
The event was organized by the Women’s Committee of Uzbekistan in cooperation with the British Embassy and the United Nations Population Development Fund in Uzbekistan.
Representatives of ministries and departments, representatives of international organizations, as well as representatives of non-governmental non-profit organizations took part in the round table.
The purpose of the event was to discuss implementation of the National Action Plan (NAP), reporting and analysis of the implementation of the recommendations of the UN Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women following the consideration of the Fifth Periodic Report of the Republic of Uzbekistan on the implementation of the UN Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women .
Uzbekistan has joined over 70 international documents, including the ten UN treaty documents, and responsibly fulfills all of its human rights obligations. In order to ensure the rights of women in accordance with international norms and legal standards in this area, Uzbekistan has acceded to the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW).
Five reports of the Republic of Uzbekistan on the implementation of the main provisions of the Convention have already been reviewed at meetings of the UN Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women. Following the consideration of the fifth periodic report of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the Final Recommendations were presented by the UN Committee.
The round table heard an expert report on implementation of the recommendations of the UN Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women and the main results of the NAP implementation, an analysis of the main causes of deficiencies in the implementation of the plan, as well as recommendations for eliminating these shortcomings and the successful implementation of the NAP.
At the end of the round table, proposals were made to address deficiencies and recommendations on the successful implementation of the NAP, and recommendations in the field of gender equality, the advancement of women, the advancement of women in public administration and the enhancement of their status.
