The 5th of June is a day for people who love and want to protect nature, its beauty and its resources. This holiday was established by the UN General Assembly resolution adopted in 1972, regarding the results of the Stockholm Conference on the Environment.
The annual celebration raises awareness of the importance of environmental protection for the sustainable development and well-being of populations around the globe, the importance of creating the best environment for the life for every person and living being on the planet, and the importance of the health of the environment for the benefit of future generations.
The EcoWeek 2013 campaign has been organised by the State Committee of the Republic of Uzbekistan for Nature Protection, UNDP in Uzbekistan and UNDP projects within the field of environmental protection, the Small Grants Programme of the Global Environment Facility (GEF SGP), and the Office of the Central Asia Regional Economic Cooperation (CAREC).
To promote World Environment Day around Uzbekistan, the event organisers will hold a wide range of events as part of EcoWeek 2013.
