Earthquake in Turkiye and Syria: more than 45,000 people died in a natural disaster

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The death toll from the earthquake in Turkiye and Syria has exceeded 45,000, Reuters reported.

According to the agency, a total of 39,672 people died in Turkiye, more than 5,800 in Syria. However, the death toll is expected to rise further, writes Reuters.

Meanwhile, AFP reported, citing Turkish media, that on Saturday, 13 days after the devastating earthquake, Turkish rescuers freed three people, including a child, from the rubble.

Later, the Turkish television channel NTV reported that one of the victims rescued from the rubble died after being taken to the hospital.

The TV channel also showed footage of rescuers taking out people rescued from the rubble, who spent 296 hours under the ruins.

Rescue teams have been finding survivors all week despite being under rubble for so long in the cold weather.

So, on Friday, 17 February, Turkish rescuers pulled a 45-year-old man out of the rubble, and a few hours earlier released a teenager and two men from the rubble.
