Domain UZ has been registered on 29 April 1995. In 2001, Tomas LLC received right to manage the domain zone. In March 2003, UZINFOCOM Center became the Administrator of UZ domain zone.

As of morning of 29 April 2013, number of active domains at UZ zone made up 16,359 units. Some 356 domains are waiting activation.

According to UZINFOCOM Center, the first 10,000th domain was registered on 25 April 2010, 13,000th domain – on 2 November 2011 and 16,000th domain in the beginning of 2013.

Currently, there are 12 registrars, six of which are under the Center for computerization in the regions of Uzbekistan.
