Discussion Club considers US policy in Eurasia
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The second session of Discussion Club was held at Tashkent’s International Business Center on 30 June and it was titled “Modern foreign policy of the United States in Eurasia: formation of new parameters or keeping traditional approaches”.

The Center for Political Studies, led by Professor Gulnara Karimova, organized the event. Ms. Karimova opened the meeting with the welcoming speech.

The session was attended by several special guests, including head of New York Office of Institute for Democracy and Cooperation (USA) Andranik Migranyan, independent expert, member of Strategic Studies Institute, Royal Institute of Defence Studies and Chatham House (UK) Irina Isakova, journalist, TV anchor, editor-in-chief of Odnako magazine (Russia) Mikhail Leontev and senior correspondent on international affairs of The Sunday India magazine Saurab Kumar Shahi.

The event was attended by representatives of ministries and departments, higher education establishments, scientific-analytical center of Uzbekistan, international organizations and diplomatic corps, accredited in Tashkent. Among participants were also youth, who actively participated at discussions.

During the Discussion Club, participants discussed several issues, related to conceptual aspects of current US policy – values, political and economic guidelines, key ideologemas and strategems.

Experts also considered such issues as future of Afghan Mission of the USA and perspectives of their policy after 2014, impact of revision of Washington policy on Afghanistan to their strategic line in Central Asia and Large Middle East space as a whole.

The meeting considered issues of combating international terrorism, search of new paradigms for NATO development, so-called Chinese challenge as development vector of Northern Alliance.

Discussion Club also considered issues related to economic problems in the United States and their impact to geopolitical strategy of Washington in Eurasia and Central Asia. The meeting also discussed wave of instability in Middle East and Northern Africa, as well as possible correction of the US policy in relations to Muslim world.

Journalist, TV anchor, editor-in-chief of Odnako magazine (Russia) Mikhail Leontev shared his opinion about the session of Discussion Club. He said that Discussion Club impressed him and there were no common phrases. People discussed concrete issues, he added. “About 70% of such events, which I attended, people talk mainly same things. Here, there were different views. ”

Discussion Club is a platform for establishing professional dialogue between foreign and Uzbek experts, and it generates new views and ideas, which impact political-economic school in Uzbekistan both in theoretical and practical level.
