Uzbekistan 14/11/2008 Deputy principals of the Institute of Professional Development of Teachers get acquainted with equality issues in school education

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- A training on “Equality rights in school education” for deputy principals and heads of departments of social science of the Institute of professional development of teachers of the Republic of Uzbekistan was organized by UNDP project.

The goal of this training was to discuss the inclusion of equality issues into the learning process, theory and practice of school education.

The participants of this training got acquainted with the methodology of teaching of issues of equality of rights of girls and boys, skills of fostering the sense of justice, rule of law and equality as well as techniques of application of the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW) into the process of school education. Among training exercises of the 3-day training a gender analysis of the schoolbooks was conducted.

At the end of the event the participants have formulated a number of proposals on covering issues of equality in school education and defined the steps of further actions.

The joint project of the Women’s Committee of Uzbekistan and UNDP “Legislative and Institutional Capacity Development for Women’s Empowerment in Uzbekistan” organized the training. The project goal is to raise awareness of the CEDAW Convention and mechanisms of its implementation in Uzbekistan.

Ms. Malika Inakova, project manager of “The Legislative and Institutional Capacity Development for Women’s Empowerment in Uzbekistan”, said: “Our project gives special attention to the issues of raising awareness in the society. Introduction of the equality issues into school classes can facilitate the fostering of tolerance amongst the young people towards each other”.

The deputy chair of the Institute named after A.Avloniy Ms. Nilufar Yuldasheva noted: "The training was extremely useful for deputy principals, as they are the individuals who are directly supervising the process of the development of education programme. We have worked out future work plans that will help us to monitor our activities in this sphere".
