Deputy Hokims of Bustan District Detained Over 65 Million Soum Bribe
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Deputy hokims of Bustan District in the Andijan region have been detained on suspicion of corruption, the State Security Service (SSS) reported.
According to the agency, the deputies responsible for investment, as well as agriculture and water management, colluded and demanded a bribe of 65 million soums from a citizen to approve an export plan of a farming enterprise worth US$500,000 through fictitious transactions.
In August, the Deputy Hokim for Agriculture and Water received an advance of 25 million soums. He was caught in the act while receiving the remaining 40 million soums through the Deputy Hokim for Investment.
A criminal case has been opened under points “v” and “g” of Part 3, Article 210 (bribery) of the Criminal Code, and the suspects have been placed in custody.
