Deputies support the abolition of certain administrative sanctions in line with the principle of proportionality

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis reviewed and adopted in the first reading a draft law on amendments to the Code of Administrative Responsibility of the Republic of Uzbekistan. The proposed changes aim to ensure compliance with the principle of proportionality in the application of legal measures.

The updated Constitution of Uzbekistan establishes that state bodies must adhere to the principle of proportionality when making decisions, ensuring that legal measures are sufficient to achieve the objectives set forth by legislation.

Amid the country’s large-scale reforms and socio-political transformations, a comprehensive approach is being taken to regulate various sectors, leading to the development and adoption of new laws that define appropriate measures of accountability for offenses.

The draft law introduces amendments to the Code of Administrative Responsibility, including the repeal of liability for certain offenses where administrative penalties are deemed unnecessary to achieve the intended legal effect.

The adoption of this law will promote strict adherence to the principle of proportionality in law enforcement practices, strengthen guarantees of citizens' rights and freedoms, and create more favorable conditions for business development.

Deputies supported the draft law and approved its adoption.
