Demyanenko determined for perfect finish
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Nasaf Karshi boss Anatoly Demyanenko is keen for his side to finish Group A in the AFC Cup with a perfect record as they chase a sixth consecutive victory against Al Tilal at Karshi Central Stadium on Wednesday.

The Uzbeks have cut an imperious swathe through the tournament so far, scoring 23 goals in five games that included a record-breaking 9-0 demolition of Indian side Dempo.

With top spot and a home tie in the round of 16 already secure, there is little to play for against the visitors from Yemen.

However, Demyanenko is eager for his side to maintain their winning feeling going into a crucial month for Nasaf.

“I know that May will be difficult for our team. It is necessary to play nine matches and in each of these matches the team must play to win. We've already won two and we must continue in that vein,” he said.

Nasaf went unbeaten in 12 games in March and April, winning 10 and drawing two and Demyanenko puts their impressive form down to an improved squad.

“We are able to cope thanks to a good selection of players,” he added.

“I have a choice of 20 players, which I'm not dividing into main and reserve squads.”

Al Tilal, meanwhile, are bottom of the table, level with Dempo on four points and two behind Al Ansar but with no chance to qualify due to inferior head-to-head records against both teams, who meet in India.

Nasaf overcame their opponents 3-2 in Yemen earlier in the competition and Demyanenko believes they would be in much stronger position had they not been forced to play their subsequent two home games abroad due to the political unrest in the country.

“Furthermore, our opponent is very serious and does not let us relax. Out of our five matches in the AFC Cup, the most difficult was against Al Tilal,” he added.

“Do not forget that we were the only team that played in Yemen. If Al Tilal had the advantage of home field in the other matches, they would be second in the group.

While it may seem an impossible task, head coach Seyoum Kebede believes Al Tilal can spring a major upset on Wednesday.

“We know how to play against Nasaf. We played very well against Nasaf in the home match,” he said.

“We can win tomorrow. For example, in the first match against Al Ansar we played without three key defenders, and we have been thrashed.

“In the second game we had no problems with the squad and we managed to beat Al Ansar 2-0 in Lebanon. Tomorrow we will also play with our optimal squad and we will fight for the victory."
