CyberWeek in Samarkand: UZCARD and Ministry of Internal Affairs Join Forces for Digital Security

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — As part of CyberWeek, the national digital technology week taking place in Samarkand, a dedicated event was held focusing on information security and the protection of users’ rights in the digital space.

The event was organized by the National Payment System UZCARD in collaboration with the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

In light of rapid digitalization across all areas of life, issues of information and cybersecurity have gained increasing importance. Uzbekistan is implementing a range of comprehensive measures to protect citizens’ data, ensure the reliability of digital infrastructure, and counter cyber threats.

Key government agencies — including the Ministry of Digital Technologies, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, national payment systems, and IT companies — are intensifying cooperation to monitor threats, secure electronic transactions, and raise public awareness about digital literacy.

The event brought together representatives of state bodies, the fintech sector, IT companies, and the expert community. Central topics included improving digital literacy among the public, combating online fraud, and developing joint response mechanisms to cyber threats.

In his speech, Masrukhon Ishanov, Director of Internal Control and Compliance at UZCARD, emphasized the company’s ongoing commitment to the security of digital financial services and the protection of user data. He noted that UZCARD and the Ministry of Internal Affairs are jointly implementing measures to monitor suspicious transactions, prevent cybercrime, and facilitate rapid information sharing between institutions.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs presented an overview of the current cybersecurity landscape, highlighting the most common types of online fraud and available mechanisms to protect users. Special emphasis was placed on awareness-building among youth — the most active and vulnerable demographic when it comes to digital services.

As part of CyberWeek, a series of masterclasses, open lectures, and discussions are also planned, covering topics such as digital ethics, protection of electronic payments, and cyber hygiene.

Events like this contribute to strengthening collaboration between the public and private sectors on digital security and fostering a responsible and secure digital environment in Uzbekistan.
