Customs officers are trained in supply chain security in Tashkent
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Nineteen customs inspectors from customs posts and two lecturers from the Higher Military Customs Institute participated in a four-day National training on supply chain security including risk analysis.

The training has been organized by the Border Management Program in Central Asia (BOMCA) funded by the European Union and implemented by UNDP together with the International Centre for Migration Policy Development (ICMPD).

Two trainers from Austria provided overview of risk management procedures at all levels for second line officers, who are in charge of supervising customs clearance procedures at an operational level. Trainers presented such topics as organization and strategy of Austrian customs administration, cooperation between customs and veterinary inspection, electronic declaration, applications in the e-customs system and other. Together with participants they compared and discussed the organizational structures with the focus on the teams operating at cargo and passengers area. During the training, they developed a flow chart of a usual cargo import procedure including all possibly involved agencies and visualized the workflow.

Participants of the training had a chance to exchange experience and best practices of the EU and Central Asia customs professionals on the topic.

The overall objectives of BOMCA are to help increase security in the Central Asian region, to contribute toward the facilitation of legitimate trade and transit, and to reduce the illicit movement of goods and people.

The BOMCA Program is funded by the European Union and implemented by UNDP with ICMPD as an implementing partner for training component.
