Cultural heritage centers to be created in Uzbekistan

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) - A Presidential Resolution "On measures to further improve the continuous training system for qualified personnel in the field of tourism, cultural heritage and museology" was adopted.

According to the Resolution, the International University of Tourism "Silk Road" was renamed into the International University of Tourism and Cultural Heritage "Silk Road".

The university has become the basic higher education institution of the member states of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization for the training of personnel in the field of tourism, cultural heritage management and museology, as well as a scientific institution for scientific and innovative research in these areas.

From the 2022/2023 academic year on the basis of Shakhrisabz, Margilan and Khiva colleges of tourism and service, Shakhrisabz, Margilan and Khiva technical schools of tourism and cultural heritage (Technical schools of cultural heritage) will be created.

Also, on the basis of the Tashkent College of Tourism and Service, the Tashkent branch of the University was created.

The University starts its activities:

- International Research Institute "Silk Road";

- The Silk Road Museum;

- Art Residence "Silk Road";

- Art Gallery "Silk Road";

- Center for retraining and advanced training of restorers.

Every year, the University is allocated 85 places for graduate degree studies on the basis of a state grant to citizens of the member countries of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, the Commonwealth of Independent States and the Cooperation Council of Turkic-speaking States. 

For foreign professors and university applicants, 20 living quarters will be allocated as official housing.

In 2022-2026, a doctoral (PhD) and graduate program in tourism, cultural heritage and museology will be introduced in the prestigious educational institutions of the El-Yurt Umidi Foundation.

The program will train 50 talented specialists (40 at the master’s level and 10 at the doctoral level.
