Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) – Croatia defeated Japan in a penalty shootout in the 1/8 final match of the World Cup in Qatar and advanced to the quarterfinals of the tournament.

The main and additional time of the match ended with the score 1:1. Daizen Maeda opened the scoring in the 43rd minute, while Ivan Perisic equalized the score in the 55th minute.

The Croatians beat the Japanese team 3-1 on penalties. Nikola Vlašić, Marcelo Brozović and Mario Pasalic were on target for Croatia. Takuma Asano was the only player from Japan, who was able to convert penalty to the goal.

In the quarterfinals of the World Cup, the Croatian national team will meet the winner of the match between Brazil and South Korea.
