Criminal proceedings initiated against judge

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 11 December 2018, a citizen appealed to the law enforcement authorities with a statement that the judge of the Urgench inter-district civil court demanded US$12,000 as a bribe in return for a positive solution to the controversial issue of determining ownership of a residence and asked to take legal measures against him.

In the operative event conducted on the basis of the aforementioned appeal, the judge was arrested by law enforcement officers at the time of receipt of US$12,000 from an attorney.

On the basis of the materials collected on the operational event, on 14 December 2018, in respect of the judge of the Urgench inter-district civil court, a criminal case was initiated under the relevant articles of the Criminal Code on the basis of article 70 of the Law of the Republic of Uzbekistan “On Courts”.

Currently, the prosecutor’s office of Khorezm region is conducting a preliminary investigation of the criminal case.
