Court Upholds Order to Refund Illegally Collected Fees to Railway Passengers

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Judicial authorities have upheld the legality of a decision made by the Special Commission of the Committee for the Control of Railway Transport Services, which obliges the joint-stock company "O‘ztemiryo‘lyo‘lovchi" and the limited liability company "Shahar atrofida yo‘lovchi tashish" to refund passengers for unlawfully withheld funds.

Previously, an inspection by the Committee revealed that the companies had improperly charged 792,186 customers commission fees exceeding the legally permitted amount when selling train tickets.

The Committee demanded that the carriers return the funds collected in violation of existing legislation, rectify the legal breaches, and take measures to prevent such occurrences in the future. However, both companies challenged these orders in court.

Despite their efforts, the court — after reviewing the case through multiple instances — rejected the carriers' claims and upheld the Committee’s findings and instructions. According to the court’s decision, the companies are not only required to refund the illegally withheld amounts to passengers but also to pay fines as stipulated by law.

Thus, the Committee’s actions were recognized as fully justified, and the rights of consumers were upheld through legal proceedings.
