Construction of the 4th copper concentration plant has begun at the Almalyk Mining and Metallurgical Complex

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — On 15 October, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev was briefed on the operations of the Almalyk Mining and Metallurgical Complex and the new investment projects.

Economic reforms are yielding results across all sectors of the economy. Over the past six years, the volume of industrial production at the Almalyk plant has increased by 1.8 times, the level of localization has risen by 7.7 times, and the volume of investments has grown by 13 times. Within the framework of the "Digital AGMK - 2030" strategy, more than 70 projects have been implemented.

Currently, new complexes are under construction, and existing capacities are being expanded. While only two plants were built throughout the 75-year history of the complex, the pace of commissioning new production capacities has significantly accelerated. In 2021, the construction of the third copper concentration plant began at the "Yoshlik-1" deposit, and now, as part of the second phase of the project, the construction of the fourth plant has commenced.

The President symbolically launched the construction of the new plant by pressing a button.

The project, which is valued at US$5.3 billion, includes the creation of production capacities for obtaining 146,000 tons of copper cathodes, 13 tons of gold, and 73 tons of silver annually. The annual production volume is expected to reach US$1.9 billion, and over 3,000 people will be employed at the plant and its related infrastructure.

The project has attracted the Italian company "Wood" and the British company "Worley Parsons." High-tech, environmentally safe, and cost-effective technologies will be used in the production process.

It is also worth noting that the design of the fifth copper concentration plant at the Almalyk Mining and Metallurgical Complex is currently underway.
