Construction of KOICA-funded pre-school educational complex starts in Tashkent

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — On 10 September, as part of the visit of Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) President Chang Won Sam to Uzbekistan, the Ministry of Preschool and School Education of the Republic of Uzbekistan, in collaboration with KOICA, have a short meeting and held the groundbreaking ceremony for the “Pre-School Educational Complex (Kindergarten and Children Experience Center) in Tashkent.”

In the morning, Mr. Chang Won Sam met with Ms. Umarova Khilola Oktamovna, Minister of Preschool and School Education of the Republic of Uzbekistan. During the meeting, President Chang emphasized that KOICA’s top priority in Uzbekistan, as part of its Country Plan, is the reform of the education system. He expressed his pleasure at attending the ceremony for the early childhood education project, which plays a crucial role in shaping children’s foundational education.

Following the meeting, both parties proceeded to the groundbreaking ceremony. The event was attended by Minister Ms.Umarova, KOICA President Mr.Chang, Director of KOICA’s Office in Uzbekistan, Mr. Shin Myung Seop, representatives from design and construction companies; and other high-ranking officials.

The project involves the creation of two integrated facilities: a kindergarten and a children’s experience center. These institutions will operate organically within one site, sharing the common goal of enhancing the capacity of early childhood teachers in Uzbekistan and improving the quality of education for children aged 3 to 7. The complex will be named the ‘Teaching and Learning Development Complex Center.’

The building design for the center was undertaken by “Dosung Architecture” and “Memorial Architectural Project” LLC, while the construction works will be carried out by “ZAMAN BUILDING” LLC. Construction supervision will be conducted by “HSnK Architects Group.”

In her address, Minister Umarova Kh.O. emphasized that the project, implemented in cooperation with the KOICA Uzbekistan office, is crucial for the sustainable future development of Uzbekistan. She expressed her belief that, although the fruits of their labor may not be immediate, the children educated through this initiative will grow into proud and contributing members of society, significantly advancing Uzbekistan’s development.

This milestone underscores the continued commitment of KOICA and the Ministry to enhancing early childhood education in Uzbekistan.
