CIS to create a unified electronic platform for the exchange of legal information

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) - The Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) proposes to develop a single electronic platform for the exchange of legal information. The draft concept for the creation of the platform was considered today by experts from the Commonwealth countries at an online meeting. This was reported by the press service of the CIS Executive Committee.

According to the agency Belta, the meeting was attended by representatives of Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, the Council of Commanders of the Border Troops, the Coordination Council of Prosecutors General, the Bureau for the Coordination of Combating Organized Crime and Other Dangerous Crimes on the Territory of the CIS Member States, The Anti-Terrorism Center, the Council of Heads of Financial Intelligence Units and the Executive Committee of the Commonwealth.

Having considered the draft document, the experts noted the need for its completion, taking into account the conceptual comments and proposals received during the meeting and during its preparation. It was also decided to schedule a regular meeting of the expert group to agree on a draft concept for the creation of a single electronic platform for the Commonwealth for the exchange of information for the third decade of November.

The press service noted that currently the provision of legal assistance within the CIS is carried out in accordance with the conventions on legal assistance and legal relations in civil, family and criminal cases, as well as a number of bilateral international treaties between the countries of the Commonwealth.

The interaction of the CIS countries in this area by means of paper document flow leads to a delay in the preparation of documents, the timing of procedural actions. In this regard, the Commonwealth states need to improve methods and approaches in the field of legal assistance through the introduction of modern information and communication technologies.

The draft concept for the creation of a unified CIS electronic platform for the exchange of information is aimed at increasing the efficiency and productivity in the provision of legal assistance, as well as the operational interaction of the competent authorities.
