CIS railway administrations hold meeting in Moldavia

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The 59th session of the Council on railway transport of the member states of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) opened in Chisinau (Moldavia) on 19 November 2013.

Heads of railway administrations of Russia, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldavia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Ukraine and associated members of the Council – Georgia, Latvia, Bulgaria and Finland are participating at the event.

Representatives of railway administrations of Lithuania, Estonia and Iran, as well as Executive Committee of the CIS and International Union of Railway also participate at the event.

Valeriy Lazer, Vice Prime Minister and Minister of Economy of Moldavia, said that railway administrations have common challenges. He said that among these challenges are improving service quality and competitiveness of railways.

Jean-Pierre Loubinoux, Director General of the International Union of Railway, said that uniting railways into associations helps actively develop cooperation in sphere of security and mutual technical compliance of the systems.

Chairperson of the Direction of the Council on railway transport of the CIS Petr Kuchernko summed up results of the work of the council since last meeting in Dushanbe (Tajikistan) in May 2013. He said that 64 sessions of commissions and working groups of the council was held to prepare several normative documents.

Within the 59th session of the Council, the participants will consider use of railway networks in nine months of 2013, schedule of railway movement for 2014-2015, results of registration of cargo cars and containers, implementation of the agreement on single system on management and use of cargo cars fleet, etc.
