A source in the main border directorate of the State Committee on National Security told the Regnum news agency that the border guards from eight countries - Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Ukraine and Russia - gathered at the session and were discussing possible ways of cooperation in protecting the borders of the CIS countries.

It is expected that issues of combating drug trafficking, illegal migration, as well as terrorism and extremism, will also be considered during the meeting.

On 26 February visits are planned to centres for training border guards and a border post on the Tajik border.

Following the two-day session, it is expected that an important document on cooperation between the border forces of the CIS countries will be adopted.
