Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — On 4-5 September 2024, Tashkent will host the Tenth International Scientific-Practical Conference of the Regional Anti-Terrorist Structure of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) and the Second Conference of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) on Combating Terrorism and Extremism, as reported by the press service of the CIS Executive Committee.

The conferences are expected to be attended by delegations from the competent bodies of SCO and CIS member states, working structures of CIS bodies, international organizations, as well as educational and research organizations involved in studying counterterrorism and counter-extremism issues.

Representatives from the UN, CIS ATC (Anti-Terrorism Center), Interpol, EAG (Eurasian Group), CICA (Conference on Interaction and Confidence-Building Measures in Asia), and others will also participate in the event.

The main goal of the conference is to exchange best practices in countering terrorism and extremism, develop measures to improve international cooperation in this area, and establish a unified understanding and approach among participants to new security challenges and threats.

Additionally, under the coordinating role of the CIS ATC, Uzbekistan’s State Security Service will conduct a joint counterterrorism exercise titled "East-Antiterror 2024" involving the competent bodies of CIS countries.

The purpose of the exercise is to enhance the activities of the competent bodies of CIS member states during joint counterterrorism operations aimed at detecting and preventing terrorist attacks on critical infrastructure and in public places.
