Chinese President supports women’s rights

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The President of China Xi Jinping put forward four proposals to ensure and protect the rights of women, speaking on 1 October at a UN high-level meeting on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the 4th World Congress of Women in Beijing.

According to the head of the Chinese state, first, women should be protected from the influence of coronavirus infection. Second, gender equality must be put into practice. Third, we need to allow women to be at the forefront of the modern age. Fourth, it is necessary to intensify international cooperation in women’s affairs.

The President of the People’s Republic of China called admirable the efforts of women all over the world participating in the fight against the novel coronavirus infection / COVID-19 / pandemic, including workers of medical and scientific institutions, epidemiological and social services, as well as volunteers.

Xi Jinping stressed that over the past 25 years, the spirit of the 4th World Women’s Congress has continued to bear positive fruit. The social status of women has increased significantly, and the popular expression that women hold half of the sky on their shoulders has become a reality. Gender equality and the empowerment of women have become important goals of the UN Development Agenda 2030.

In the fight against the coronavirus pneumonia pandemic and in the post-epidemic recovery process, the Chinese head of state called for increased attention to the needs of women.

Xi Jinping noted that equality between men and women is the main state policy of the PRC. In the legal system of the PRC, there are more than 100 legislative and regulatory acts dedicated to ensuring the interests of women. The country has basically closed the gender gap in compulsory education. Female staff account for a quarter of all community workers. 

“We will continue to strengthen global cooperation in support of women,” the PRC President assured.
