Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Charles III has been officially proclaimed as the new king of Great Britain. The ceremony took place at St. James’s Palace in central London.

The strictly regulated procedure took place in the state rooms of the palace, which served until the 19th century as the official residence of the British monarchs, and was broadcast on television for the first time in history, TASS reports.

The ceremony was divided into two parts. At first, the Council of Succession met without the participation of the monarch. In fact, this is an expanded composition of the Privy Council - an advisory body under the monarch, who heads it. Council members are not only the current Prime Minister of Great Britain Liz Truss, who only took this post on Tuesday, but also all former prime ministers, heads of the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the kingdom, high-ranking representatives of the House of Lords, the House of Commons and the clergy, members of the royal family, Lord Mayor of London, as well as high commissioners (ambassadors) representing Australia, Canada, New Zealand, Jamaica and a dozen other countries in the United Kingdom, the head of which is still formally the British monarch. Membership in the council is for life, its members are more than 700 people. Considering that the main chambers of the palace can accommodate only one and a half hundred people, only active and elected members of the council take part in the meeting. The hall was attended by five former Prime Ministers of Great Britain.

The monarch himself took part in the second part of the meeting. By three centuries of tradition, His Majesty will take a single oath - to protect the Church of Scotland. This was the condition of the Anglo-Scottish Union concluded in 1707. The oath concerning the Church of England, of which the British monarch is the supreme head, will be recited later in the Houses of Parliament.

At 11.00 (13.00 Moscow time), a public proclamation declaring the heir to the throne as king was read from the balcony of St. James’s Palace to the sound of fanfare and artillery salute, and flags at half-mast after the death of the queen will be raised in recognition of the monarch. The coronation of the monarch will take place in a few months. Its date has not yet been determined.
