Central Bank of Uzbekistan plans to create a universal payment QR code
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — In 2025, the Central Bank of Uzbekistan plans to introduce unified standards for payment QR codes, simplifying the cashless payment process in the country. This was announced by Mirosiz Mirkhayotov, Deputy Director of the Payment Systems Department of the Central Bank.
Currently, multiple different QR codes are often used at points of sale for various services, causing inconvenience to consumers. The Central Bank intends to develop a universal standard that will allow customers to pay for purchases through any mobile application or payment service using a single QR code installed at the establishment.
"We aim to create a single standard. A QR code will be installed at the organization, and customers will be able to make payments through any mobile app or payment service of their choice," said Mirkhayotov. The implementation of this initiative is expected to take one year.
According to the Central Bank, in 2024, over 108,000 entrepreneurs received individual QR codes. The volume of payments made through QR codes increased by 31%, totaling 441.79 billion soums.
The benefits of using QR codes include the elimination of the need to install POS terminals, reducing costs for businesses, as well as the automatic allocation of tax cashback due to system integration.
