Central Asia Studies German Experience to Develop Trans-Caspian Corridor

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — A high-level delegation from Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan completed a study visit to Germany’s largest logistics facilities, focusing on automation, multimodal integration, and clean energy to support the development of the Trans-Caspian Transport Corridor (TCTC).

According to the GIZ office in Uzbekistan, the five-day visit, organized under the regional project “Trade Facilitation in Central Asia,” concentrated on practical, implementable technologies relevant to the development of the region’s trade infrastructure.

Key stops included: the Rhenus warehouse complex in Duisburg, showcasing advanced robotic solutions and paperless processes for scaling e-commerce; Duisport inland port, demonstrating climate-neutral terminal designs; Henkel’s automated high-rack warehouse in Düsseldorf, integrating renewable energy and emission reduction technologies; and the facilities of BITO and TÜNKERS, presenting modular and cost-effective automation solutions applicable to logistics modernization in Central Asia.

The delegation highlighted three main takeaways: the importance of multimodal connectivity, the feasibility of phased automation, and the compatibility of high-performance logistics systems with sustainable development goals. These insights will form the basis for pilot projects, including semi-automated warehouse solutions, standardized multimodal hubs, and the development of regional digital and human capital to accelerate TCTC growth.

The visit was organized under the Regional Project “Trade Facilitation in Central Asia,” implemented by GIZ on behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).
