Maqom is a unique art, which was developed over the centuries thanks to the work of poets and philosophers, composers, singers and musicians, the document said. UNESCO recognized shashmaq as an intangible cultural heritage of mankind.
Uzbek leader approved a proposal to organize the Center for Uzbek National Art of maqom.
The center will develop the arts of maqom in Uzbekistan, revive and study on scientific basis the existing performing and creative schools and traditions, the heritage of great composers, hafiz and musicians.
The center will also create a “gold fund” of masterpieces of classical and modern execution of maqom.
This center will translate into notes of the Uzbek classical musical heritage, decipher and introduce into the scientific and cultural circulation existing records, study of social and historical roots, scientific and theoretical foundations of maqom art.
The Center will support the activities of maqom singers, teachers and scientists, to organize the exchange of experience, master classes, forums and competitions.
The new center will promote the art of maqom in Uzbekistan and abroad through radio and television, other media and the Internet.
Uzbek leader ordered to create the department “History and theory of the Uzbek maqom”, and in pedagogical higher educational establishments a special subject “Art of maqom” is introduced as a direction of musical education.
Starting from 2018, Shakhrisabz will host an International Forum of Maqom Art once two years. In the historic part of Oksaroy Square in Shakhrisabz, a museum dedicated to the art of maqom and a laboratory of national musical instruments will be created.
