CAFA unanimously supports the candidature of Sheikh Salman for upcoming elections of AFC President

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The Central Asian Football Association (CAFA) announced unanimous support for Sheikh Salman bin Ibrahim Al-Khalifa in the AFC presidential elections during the AFC congress, which will be held on April 6, 2019 in the capital of Malaysia in Kuala Lumpur.

Countries such as Afghanistan, Iran, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan, which are members of the Central Asian Football Association, voted for Sheikh Salman bin Ibrahim Al-Khalifa’s candidacy at the CAFA congress, which took place on 22 March in the capital of Kyrgyzstan in Bishkek.

On 6 April, 47 federations will vote on the election of a new president of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC). We came to the conclusion that the best candidate for this post today is the current President of AFC, Sheikh Salman bin Ibrahim Al-Khalifa, said CAFA President Umid Akhmatjanov.

Dear Sheikh Salman is well aware of the reforms necessary for the development of football, because he began his career in the football field from the bottom. In addition, working in his country in the Bahrain Football Federation, then as President of the Asian Football Confederation, and also as FIFA Vice-President, he implemented large-scale reforms and made a worthy contribution to the development of football.

Today it is not necessary to list everything that Sheikh Salman has done for football, since we all have been watching his work since 2013. Based on this, all members of the Central Asian Football Association unanimously supported the candidature of Sheikh Salman for the presidency of AFC for the period 2019-2023.

Sheikh Salman bin Ibrahim Al-Khalifa was elected President of AFC in May 2013. He nominated his candidacy for the next presidential election of the AFC at the meeting of the AFC Executive Committee in Tashkent last September.
