Bukhara was awarded the status of the world city of artisans

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Ancient Bukhara has been given the status of a world city of artisans by the World Council of Artisans, Jamol Nasirov, mayor of Bukhara, told to Dunyo news agency. 

- Within the framework of the international gold embroidery and jewelry business, an international festival of the art of kashta embroidery is being held, - the khokim said. - It is no coincidence that this international level event is held in our city.

Bukhara has been one of the cultural centers with developed handicraft since ancient times. Here, handicrafts and various areas of folk applied arts were mainly developed, especially gold embroidery and jewelry, the art of kashta embroidery.

Through the tradition of "master-apprentice", family dynasties of artisans pass on the secrets of craftsmanship from generation to generation. At present, handicraft traditions are consistently developing in Bukhara. Today there are 800 artisans and about 5 thousand of their students.

In particular, many types of handicrafts flourish, such as silk carpet weaving, pottery, chasing, gold embroidery and jewelry, embroidery, and woodcarving.

It is gratifying that the World Council of Artisans has given ancient Bukhara the status of a world city of artisans.

yesterday the first international festival of gold embroidery and jewelry started in Bukhara with a festive procession of participants.

The festival, which will run until May 25, is attended by 288 artisans from all regions of the republic. Among them are 110 jewelers, 37 masters of gold embroidery, 44 embroiderers, 97 masters in various areas of handicraft.

Participants from 58 countries of the world arrived at the festival. During the festival, 112 foreign artisans will demonstrate their skills visually.
